Lighting & Production Designer | Live Entertainment
London
£45,000–£50,000 + Additional Show Day Rates
Hybrid
I’m working with an exciting live entertainment and production design business to find a Lighting & Production Designer to join its creative team in London.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically strong lighting designer who enjoys being involved in a project from the initial creative concept through to programming and live delivery. Working closely with the Design Director, you’ll have the opportunity to shape ambitious productions, develop detailed designs and take ownership of lighting on site across a varied portfolio of projects in the UK and internationally.
The role offers a genuine mix of studio-based creative development and hands-on show delivery, giving you continuity from the first drawings and previsualisations through to the finished production.
The Role
You’ll work across the full lifecycle of projects, combining production design, lighting design, previsualisation, programming and live show operation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing creative concepts into detailed production and lighting designs alongside the Design Director.
- Producing production-ready 2D technical drawings and 3D models using Vectorworks.
- Adapting existing designs to suit different venues, supplier inventories and budgets while maintaining creative intent.
- Preparing technical drawings and production packs for suppliers, fabricators and venue teams.
- Creating real-time previsualisations in Depence R3 for design development, client presentations and creative reviews.
- Preparing MVR exports and pre-programming files to ensure a smooth transition from previsualisation into live programming.
- Pre-programming and programming shows using grandMA2 and/or grandMA3, working closely with the Show Director and wider creative team.
- Travelling to UK and international sites to operate and programme lighting during builds, rehearsals and show days.
- Taking ownership of lighting on site, working with vendors and technical crews to ensure designs are delivered to the required standard.
- Supporting the development of show books, creative proposals, presentations and visualisations.
- Contributing to smaller projects, design development, production meetings and venue site visits between major productions.
About You
You’ll be a creative and technically minded designer who is comfortable moving between the design studio and live production environments.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Experience in lighting design, production design or a closely related live entertainment environment.
- Strong Vectorworks skills, including the ability to produce accurate, production-ready drawings and manage complex drawing files.
- Experience with Depence R3 and real-time previsualisation workflows.
- Practical programming experience with grandMA2 and/or grandMA3.
- An understanding of MVR workflows and the transition from previsualisation to live show programming.
- The confidence to work directly with suppliers, venue technical teams and production crews.
- A hands-on approach to live show delivery, with the flexibility to travel internationally when projects require it.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage technical detail while protecting the creative vision.
What's on Offer?
- £45,000–£50,000 annual salary, depending on experience.
- Additional payments for on-site operating and programming days, on top of your salary.
- Weekday show days paid at an additional £300 gross per day, with Saturday and Sunday show days paid at £500 gross per day.
- Company-funded travel, accommodation and per diems for show days.
- A full-time position within a collaborative design team, working closely with the Design Director.
- Exposure to a diverse range of ambitious live productions in the UK and internationally.
- A studio-based role with hybrid arrangements available by agreement.
- 28 days' annual leave, including public holidays.
- Potential relocation assistance, subject to agreement.
The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9.30am–5.30pm, with flexibility required around live production schedules.
